Bribery

Ok, so bribes are NOT a good way to parent. But sadly, they've started in our house. It seems like we are always fighting Roo to do simple things like take her medicine or clean up her room.

My question is, when is a bribe a bribe and when is it a reward?

Since last we spoke...

We've abandoned pting for right now. It was incredibly stressful (one strong willed child and mom don't mix) and Roo developed another UTI. :-(

We were on our way to the beach when she started screaming. She wouldn't stop for the last hour. What a nightmare. Well it turns out she had UTI part deux. We're not sure if the first one ever went away, but this one is almost clear. Thank goodness. When we went for her follow up with her doctor we were also informed that her tonsils were swollen. Most likely from strep throat! ACK! Luckily she was already on the "right" meds for that. So that's clearing. She's fever free and seems to be in good spirits. That's something.

Today was the first day of Roo's music class! We decided to put her in a music class to break up the day and because she always seemed to enjoy it at daycare. We had a blast! :-) She was a little shy at first but warmed up with a little coaxing. She's already talking about going next week. :-)

Jack is still sleeping like crap but growing like a weed. He impressed everyone at the beach with his laid back temperment and smiley face. No one can get over how much he looks like J though.

I'm wiped out and the big girl has cried through naptime. UGH...

Stay the course

I used to think that the term "stay the course" was the most asinine phrase ever. This was until potty training came along.

I decided last night to step back, let her decide what to do. Much to my suprise, she's decided to step up and continue training and learning on her own. After deciding to wear a diaper this morning, she quickly changed into undies and go about her day. She had one accident and soon realized she didn't like that.

She not only peed on the potty but she pooped TOO!

Amazing.

ETA: This day was a fluke. We've given up.

Excrutiating

Pt has been the single most excrutiating thing we've done. Far more traumatic than sleep training. I'm exhausted, she's exhausted...

I feel like we are ready to give up.

Day three was no better than day one or day two. Infact, it might have even been worse. No, it was better than day one.

Save the drama for your mama...

Or someone other than me.

Today was day one of Roo being home and day two of Roo potty training. What a dramatic/traumatic day.

Yesterday Roo had one success. Today there was 7!!! WOO WHOO! The only problem? Each potty trip has been filled with screaming and tears. She is desperately trying to hold it in, which just makes it all the worse. Luckily she sat down pretty easily, so it's not as is **I** am torturing her.

Keep on rooting for us. I think it's working...but man, this is hard. Who knew?!

Testing, testing...

This weekend has been full of big changes.

1. The binky fairy came and took all of the big girl's binkies and left her some special treats. That went incredibly well. Obviously the girl was ready to give it up. I mean really. She is 3 years and 1.5 months. BUT she was really attached. She asked for it once this entire weekend but was completely content with the reminder that the binky fairy came and took away all of the binks. :-)

2. We have completed day 1 one with operation Potty Train. Not that it was successful. It's over though! We spent the entire day on and off the pot. She had one success (YAY!) and several accidents. That's ok. She gets the idea now. She's been telling us all day, "I wear big girl undies now, I don't need diapers. I pee and poop in the potty."

This is the first week that Roo will be home with me and Jack-Jack. Should be interesting. Most of the time will be spent working on potty training. Then we head off to Grandma and Papa's house for the long weekend. We need a good beach trip...

If anyone has suggestions about how to travel with a potty training child, I would appreciate it. We typically stop at 2 hours in, which is just at half way. Pull ups? Diapers?

Wish us luck for the week ahead.

Some one is coming to visit...

"Tonight the binky fairy is coming and she is going to peek in my window to see if I am sleeping and I am going to jump up and peek out the window and say Peek-a-boo and she is going to fly away."

Yes, it was a total run-on sentence.

Stay tuned for more details...

No one told me...

No one told me that AFTER you have a baby, all your hair will fall out! Ok, maybe not ALL of your hair...but still!

Some women have thick luscious hair when pregnant. Mine stays about the same. It's fine but thick...if that makes sense. Anyway, it happened with Roo and now it's happening again. 10 weeks post partum.

**And for all you know-it-alls with THICK hair who think you could stand to lose a few strands, this isn't the same. Think male pattern baldness. Luckily it comes back. Slowly though.
Please pardon the poor graphics

Baby Gear...what a racket!

With the welcoming of baby Jack, brought the influx of baby gear. We've bought very little this time around, merely because we still had all of Roo's old stuff. Boy clothes, boy stuff, a bumbo seat and that's about it.

Well...since Roo will be joining Jack Jack and myself at home, the time has come to buy a double stroller. What a quandry I'm in. You think, hmm go to Babies R Us or Target and pick out something. There are three inherent problems with this.

1. Their stock is limited. While there are many "affordable options" there aren't many that fit OUR needs. Roo is nearly 34 lbs and 37 inches tall. Sure, she may not like a stroller when we are out and about, she can't be trusted to stick close. Also, we walk...alot. Like 3 miles at a time, several times a week. This means she HAS to be in a comfortable seat. So no sit and stand strollers. I also have a bad back. I've killed myself too many times trying to haul junk around. Which means no moderately priced doubles like the very stylish Graco DuoGlider (which weighs in at almost 40 lbs with NO ONE in it!).

2. I'm a bargain hunter. I LIKE a deal. I'm not "cheap" but I like a deal. I will google one item for days to find a sale or a coupon code or free shipping or SOMETHING. I can't help myself.

3. I'm a snob. I honestly try not to be. I'm certainly not judging people for their strollers. Jim says I just like the most bang for my buck...who am I kidding? I like names. Funny though, we all have clothes from Target in our closets. I think its just the big ticket items that get me. (OMG, did I really admit this???!!!)

So far I have two that might work for us...

1. Baby Jogger City Double - Weighs 23 lbs, holds up to 100 lbs, easy to fold and gets stellar reviews. Also, will fit in the trunk of the Accord. Cons: is a side by side and might be too tight in malls and crowded areas.

2. Phil & Teds E3 or Sports Buggy - Weighs 24 lbs, holds up to 88 lbs, easy to fold, can convert to single or double, is usable from birth, has inflated tires, is. Cons: Riley is only able to ride in front seat based on weight limits.

What is a girl to do???

Sit and think and wait for our Bush Bucks...

A Very Happy Mothers' Day Indeed

I woke up today with 2 little friends in our bed. It was wonderful.

Roo and J got up and ran to Bojangles to get a delicious (and nutritious) breakfast. (They also ran to get cards, but I'm not supposed to know that.) It was pretty icky and rainy out but Roo was a trooper apparently. She even got to participate in her own "horn card." Now, you may ask, what is a horn card? That is when you buy your card at the last possible second and proceed to fill it out on the horn of your car. :-)

We spent the rest of the day toodling around and shopping. I'm managed to embrace (or accept) my post baby body and buy some stuff for the summer. It's already been in the 80's around here!

Tonight, Jack and I laid on the bed and stared at eachother for about 30 minutes. It was filled with sweet smiles and coos. He has even started swatting at me. With three swift punches to the face, I realized that he's as in love as I am. :-)

Crazy Cute

We found some pictures in J's parents' photo albums. Just wanted to share a few, especially for those that KNOW how much the kids look like him.

Open Letter...

I've been thinking about this for a long time...here we go.

Dear Boobs:

I'm writing a letter to make you aware of my displeasure for your actions. You have consistently let me down and I've had it up to HERE! (Holding my hand up to my neck) If you continue to be so disobediant and negligent, I will be forced to replace you. It's not something I'm thrilled about, but a woman can only take so much.

The first strike against you was during puberty. I thought you were coming in slowly. Nope, you just came one day and that was it. Tiny as you were, I decided that good things must come in small packages, right?

Then there was Roo. Poor baby was starving and all you could muster up was an ounce here and an ounce there?! I was milking you within an inch of your life (as well as mine). I thought you'd get the hint. After herbs, drugs, water, oatmeal and 6 weeks...you still didn't cooperate. I did my share fair. How about you? NO!

And finally, Jack Jack. He isn't quite the eater that Roo was. Yet, you still tried to sputter out. I've worked and worked to get you flowing. Slowly you've started to come around. 8.5 weeks later we are still trying to you up to "snuff." Yes, you are "working on it", but all this coaxing is aggrivating and really starting to piss me off. You know what you need to do.

The long and short of it is that you need to get your ducts in a row and start flowing. No more excuses. The boy has to eat and I'm sick and tired of making excuses for you. Shape up or I will be forced to find a replacement for you.

Sincerely,

Management

Big Boy!

Jack Jack had his 2 month well baby visit and here are his stats:

10 lbs 14 oz (25th percentile)
23 1/4 inches long (50th percentile)

As an aside, poor big sissy has been sick this week with a UTI but seems to be on the mend now. :-(

It's K-K! Kena-nay-nay...

We had a great visit with our friend Kennedy on Saturday! I actually got to go out to lunch on Saturday and have a really engaging conversation about politics and current events. Amazing. Miss K works for a new station so she's completely up to date with current events. It was wonderful!

It's been WAY too long since we've visited and it was really nice to see her!

After Kennedy left, Roo kept saying, "Mommy, I like your friend!" :-)
